How to Jump Start Another Car

If you have ever been stuck on the side of the road with a dead battery, then you know how frustrating it can be to wait for roadside assistance. For those with jumper cables, the problem is solved faster. All you need is a set of jumper cables and another car with a working battery. The second car can charge your battery through the jumper cables. The process is easy to set up and typically takes only 10 to 20 minutes to charge.

Before starting this process, both vehicles should be in park or neutral with the emergency brake on and the ignition turned off. You don’t want to attach the jumper cables until both cars are safely shut off. The red clips on the jumper cables attached to the positive terminals on the car batteries. The black clips attach to the negative terminals. You can also look for the + and - symbols on the cables and battery terminals. Once the cables are hooked on, you can start the car with the working battery to charge up your dead battery.
